The moment it changed

1.7 million visitors. Two percent converted.

Six years ago, Dr. Steven Young sat with the team of an information-product business he stewarded. They were proud that 1.7 million people had seen the sales page and two percent had converted.

He heard the same numbers differently: 97 or 98 percent of the people had received no benefit.

That recognition opened a different question. What if everyone could benefit at every step, whether they bought or not?

Changing the context

From fear to an opportunity to explore.

The first change was in the words. The team moved away from the fear-heavy context common in internet marketing and towards an invitation to explore what a person is capable of.

The goal was not only to improve the experience for people who purchased. It was to make the whole encounter useful for everyone who arrived.

Within about two months, messages began arriving from visitors who said they felt better simply by being on the website.
